Tackling the microplastics problem through community art
Current Global Field Program (GFP) graduate student Molly Biagi of River Grove, Illinois, recently partnered with Chicago-based environmental conservation organization Urban Rivers and hosted a microplastics art event. The event gave community members the opportunity to repurpose the plastic bits that Biagi had collected in and around Chicago/Chicago River and make colorful mosaics. Attendees also learned about micro and macro plastics and their impact on local ecosystems and environment.
As a student in ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú's biology department, Biagi is earning a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Biology through Project Dragonfly's GFP while working as a laboratory biologist at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
