Fall 2023 Health Careers Week

The 5th annual Health Careers Week is coming, and the Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education, along with the MWC Student Advisory Board, have been working hard to plan a variety of events for pre-health students at all stages! Check out the list of events, and join us at as many as you can to show our guest speakers how wonderful and outgoing our community is!


October 14 - 9:00 am-4:00 pm
NEOMED

During this all-day event, representatives from the medical schools in Ohio and surrounding states provide information that will help potential applicants prepare for their future to become the best physicians that they can be. This will include what you can be doing now to grow as a person, how to build a strong application, and what are the parts of the application cycle. There will be time to hear from a panel of medical students and time to chat with the medical school representatives. An optional tour of the medical school will be available at the end of the day. The cost of the event is $25, and the MWC will be providing a bus. . If you're interested in riding the bus, .


October 16 - Multiple Times

The Mallory-Wilson Center is partnering with the Physician Associate's program to provide tours of the Clinical Health Sciences Building, including the cadaver lab! This is a great way for all pre-health students to get a feel for what labs will be like in healthcare professional programs, and is also a way for pre-PA students to become familiar with ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú's program! .


Combined Degree ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Panel

October 16 - 4:00-5:30 pm

Join representatives from multiple combined degree programs at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, including Spanish, statistics, kinesiology, microbiology, and social work, as they discuss how you can complete both an undergraduate and graduate degree in 4-5 years, and how you can benefit from this opportunity!

Shriver Center

Start contributing to the healthcare community by donating blood to help offset the shortages professionals have been seeing over the past few years. .


Professional School Fair

Stop by the professional school fair to meet and speak with representatives from regional healthcare professional programs. This is a great opportunity for you to begin building your network so that you have specific individuals to reach out to for advice on your application.

Cedarville University School of Pharmacy Visits ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú

Thaddeus Franz, PharmD discusses the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, and will be speaking about the profession of pharmacy, their program, and the application process. They have increased the amount of first-year scholarships available, so make sure to stop by and network!

Armstrong Student Center Pavilion

The MWC has partnered with the Center for Career Exploration and Success to offer a resume workshop for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and an employer panel for students who are interested in learning more about non-clinical pathways that can allow them to work in healthcare.

The resume workshop can be good for any student and the panel can be particularly beneficial to someone who might not want to be a doctor or a nurse, but still wants to work somewhere related to healthcare. The resume workshop will be the first 45 minutes and the panel will be the last 45 minutes. .

Panelists include representatives and/or hiring managers from the following organizations:

  • Bon Secours Mercy Health (Nadia Wade, University Relations Specialist)
  • Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) (Kelly Hastings, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist)
  • Kettering Health Hamilton (Paul Hoover, President)
  • MedPace (Brian McQuade, Associate Director, Clinical Monitoring)

Hear representatives from a variety of professional healthcare programs, including medical school, dental school, PA school, and other programs discuss what they are looking for in applicants, and share advice based on their experiences over the years!


October 19 - 5:00-6:30 pm

Hear healthcare professionals from different pathways discuss the similarities and differences between their career paths, why they chose the paths they did, and how they've gotten to where they are today. Panelists include the following:

  • Dr. David DeLaet (medicine)
  • Karey Davis (PA)
  • Dr. Josiah Allen (pharmacy), and
  • one more TBD.

October 19 - 6:30-8:00 pm

Hear healthcare professionals from different pathways discuss the similarities and differences between their career paths, why they chose the paths they did, and how they've gotten to where they are today. Panelists include the following:

  • Dr. Mark Mendeszoon (podiatric medicine)
  • Ashlyn Johnson (nursing)
  • Dr. Jess Walpole (medicine), and
  • Dr. Dean Smith (chiropractic medicine).

MCAT Prep Panel Presented by the MWC Student Advisory Board

Join ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University senior students as they discuss their experiences preparing for and taking the MCAT, including tips and tricks that you can use to successfully complete the process.
