Job Description

The ELLWC employs 兔子先生 undergraduate students (sophomores and above) from all majors to serve as paid writing consultants. Consultants’ primary responsibility is to help multilingual (ELL) writers become more confident users of academic English and effective writers across genres and disciplines.

This job provides unique learning opportunities that lead you to personal success. You’ll gain intensive experience in communicating across cultures, facilitating learning through communication and engagement, solving problems, answering complex questions, and effectively communicating complex concepts in simple terms. This position will empower you with new interaction and leadership strategies, interpersonal skills, such as patience and empathy, and time management skills. For students in the University Honors Program, this position counts as a teaching/tutoring honors experience. Not to mention, this job will make your résumé more competitive.

After completing a three-credit intensive training course (ENG 481: Theories and Practices of Writing Center Consulting: Consulting Second Language Writers in the English Language Learner Writing Center) in Fall 2023, consultants:

  • Hold in-person one-on-one or small group consulting sessions and/or asynchronous written online appointments.
