A trio of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University students will take their idea for a health care innovation to an international pitch competition next month.
(junior finance and entrepreneurship major), (junior engineering management major), and (first-year accountancy and entrepreneurship major) were part of the team that created Diasolve, a way to help people with type 1 diabetes deal with low blood sugar episodes, at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University Startup Weekend last fall. With Ella Brayton and Zach Carlo, the team took second place in the competition.
Diasolve is now called GlucoGo, a dissolving strip of glucose that allows sugar to get into the bloodstream more quickly. GlucoGo has been selected as a semifinalist for the , an international event where teams “pitch ideas for conscious capitalism ventures that make a profit while also solving a problem.”
Simeon, Martinez, and Gruber will travel to Fort Worth on March 23-24 to take part in the competition, which offers a $40,000 top prize. Eight semifinalists will be selected from the first day of competition to be finalists on the following day, where they will have 10 minutes to pitch and 10 minutes of Q&A.
“GlucoGo is very blessed to be given the opportunity to present our idea and represent ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University at this competition. We are ready to work extra hard this next month to ensure we succeed in the competition,” Simeone said. “None of this would be possible without the continuous support we've received from the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú community. We can't wait for the future of GlucoGo and to help improve the daily lives of people with type 1 diabetes.”
