Research Opportunities for Students
Dr. Bhowmick’s research is involved in shock compression of condensed matter experiments in conventional as well as novel materials. The motivation is to understand fundamental processes that dictate alterations in physical and chemical properties of materials when they are put under extreme conditions. Collaborative projects have been initiated between geology, chemistry, materials science and physics departments. For the simple characterizations of the materials (UV-VIS, Fluorescence, FTIR etc.), either the newly developed optics lab or the analytical chemistry facilities (both at MUM) could be used. There are supplemental facilities at other campuses (XRD, confocal Raman) and at collaborating institutions (University of Illinois, Northern Kentucky University) to be used when necessary.
