The Excellence in Innovation and Research award recognizes faculty and staff for significant external funding & patenting efforts.  Principal investigators and inventors are selected for one of the following award categories based on their external funding efforts and other criteria as noted.

Award Categories

Grants in Transdisciplinary

Substantial external funding efforts that engage at least one partner external to ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University.

Grants in Pedagogy

Substantial external funding in the field of educational pedagogy.

Grants in Social Sciences

Substantial external funding in the discipline of social sciences.

Grants in Outreach

Substantial external funding for community-engaged programming or research.

Natural Sciences

Substantial external funding in the natural sciences.

Humanities

Substantial external funding in the humanities.

Arts

Substantial external funding in the arts.

Education

Substantial external funding in the field of education.

Economic Development

Substantial external funding for economic development.

Engineering

Substantial external funding in the discipline of engineering.

Business

Substantial external funding in the business discipline.

Commercialization

Significant milestones in commercialization such as issued patents and engagement in startup companies birthed from university research.

Selection Process

The Office of Research and Innovation selects recipients based on funding award amount and alignment with category criteria.  Award winners are recognized at a major awards reception hosted by the President and Provost typically in March.
