Why ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú?
The easy access to undergraduate research is phenomenal at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú. You can join as a freshman and have the possibility to publish before graduating. You learn the critical thinking skills that will prepare you for your time beyond ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.
How did you choose your major?
I came in as a biochemistry major after enjoying taking AP Biology and Chemistry in high school. The rest of my major and co-majors I decided along the way. They all complement each other and help me make the most of the interdisciplinary study at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.
Key Moment at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú
I did a study abroad trip with my first-year general biology professor, David Russell, to Florida to study avian biodiversity. This trip was impactful on my life because of putting into practice looking for the connections. Looking for a specific bird was not about just knowing their migration patterns, but incorporating all your knowledge about the species such as their food or calling. This practical skill will be very useful for the rest of my life.
Favorite ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Memory
As Student Body Vice President, I have had the wonderful honor of advocating on behalf of the student body. In this role, I get to build relationships with various administrators, work on exciting initiatives, and learn more about how I can best support students. This position has enhanced my ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú experience and improved my leadership skills.
Advice to Prospective Students
Ask questions! Everyone at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú is willing to help you get to where you want to be if you just let them know what it is you want.
What are your career goals?
I am currently in the application cycle for MD-PhD programs. I will become a physician-scientist in the pediatric pulmonology department at a university hospital. I will conduct research on how environmental pollutants affect respiratory health while seeing patients.
