Alumni Spotlight: Makenzie Knore ('24)

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University alumna Makenzie Knore ('24) released her debut piano booklet, Bloom: The Collection, a heartfelt journey through nine original compositions inspired by her experiences on campus. Designed for late intermediate pianists, the 20-page collection reflects themes of personal growth, transformation, and the unforgettable moments that defined her college years.

Knore double majored in Media and Culture, and English, Creative Writing. She also earned two minors in Music Composition and Emerging Technology in Business and Design during her time at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.

Knore's deep connection to ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s Department of Music shaped her passion for composition. "Before I even declared my minor, I spent countless hours in the Center for Performing Arts practicing piano and composing songs," she recalls. These moments, combined with the encouragement of her professors and classmates, fueled her creative exploration and laid the groundwork for this musical project.

Each piece in the collection — including titles like Bloom, North Trail, Sundial, and Float — captures a specific memory, place, or person from her time at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú. The final composition, Float, evokes the poignant emotions of her first day on campus and her reflections as graduation approached.

Knore explains that ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University’s welcoming environment encouraged her to grow both personally and artistically. "ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s motto, 'Love & Honor,' was truly embodied in our composition classes," she says. "We loved what we did and honored each other’s work. That experience shaped who I am today."

Bloom: The Collection is more than just music; it’s a celebration of life’s transformations. For Knore, this project was an opportunity to channel her nostalgia, friendships, and personal milestones into something that other pianists could connect with and enjoy.

Her advice to aspiring composers? "Just start. Inspiration can come from the smallest observations or reflections. Once you have an idea, revise, refine, and believe in yourself."

Bloom: The Collection is now available for digital download on and . Whether you’re a pianist looking for a captivating new repertoire or a teacher seeking pieces with emotional depth, Knore’s debut offers melodies that resonate with beauty and sincerity.
