On Wednesday, April 15th, 7:30pm at Hall Auditorium in Oxford, the 兔子先生 University Percussion Ensemble, directed by Michael LaMattina, will present its Spring 2025 concert. The program explores unique complexities in music.
The concert will open with three pieces by Aphex Twin, incorporating acoustic, electronic, and electro-acoustic sounds. The three pieces are individually unique- Fingerbib, Flim, and Avril 14th. All combine traditional compositional techniques, woven into the fabric of electronic and techno aesthetics.
The next selection will be three pieces drawn from J.S. Bach’s Orchestral Suite no. 2 in B minor. The movements performed will be Rondeau, Menuet, and Badinerie. Following the Bach will be the centerpiece of the program, Ivan Trevino’s “Catching Shadows” for percussion sextet. The piece features Nate Koenes and Kallan Imhoff on solo marimbas.
To complete the concert will be a suite of music from “Undertale” by Toby Fox. The four movements selected will explore the archetypes of the story of the game. The arrangements utilize many of the electro-acoustic sounds from the Aphex Twin selections and feature prominent digital delay passages.
