ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú makes its award-winning online DEI leadership course available to on-campus and external audiences

President's Report

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University’s award-winning online Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúhip certificate course is now available, both internally and externally.

The self-paced online course is spearheaded by the Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI), in collaboration with ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Online’s Professional Education department. Last year, it earned bronze from the Telly Awards, the world’s largest honor for video and television content across all screens, in the Online Series – Education and Discovery category.

The course seeks to empower individuals to lead and support diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces and communities by providing fresh insights and best practices from experts. The breadth and depth of the modules, which range from microaggressions to anti-racism to ableism and to ageism, reflect ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s holistic and intersectional approach to diversity.

“In OIDI, part of our approach to climate is to ensure that ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúans have the resources needed to contribute to an inclusive ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú for all,” said Cristina Alcalde, vice president for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion.

She added, “These modules are valuable resources that offer knowledge and strategies for more inclusive working and learning environments. We are so fortunate to have the faculty and staff expertise, and such a talented ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Online Professional Ed team, to make this course possible. I hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity to hone their leadership skills and contribute to more inclusive spaces.”

Facilitated by ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú faculty and staff with expertise on the topics covered in the individual modules, this at-your-own-pace course is ideal for those in leadership positions and aspiring leaders, as well as for those interested in actively promoting more inclusive workplaces through knowledge and strategies.

Through 14 in-depth, 45-minute modules, course participants learn from distinguished ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú faculty and staff experts as they tackle essential topics such as: bias, stereotypes and microaggressions; race and anti-racism; LGBTQ+ identities; ableism and inclusion; cultural intelligence; strategies for workplace inclusiveness; intercultural communication in a globalized world; indigenous perspectives: ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Nation; healthcare inequities and inclusion; age and ageism bias; emotional well-being; masculinities in the workplace; allyship and advocacy; and intergroup dialogue.

How to access the course

The course — free to ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú faculty, staff, and graduate students through — can be accessed with ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú credentials. Click on "Browse catalogs" at the top right and choose Faculty/Staff in the drop-down menu.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s new DEI in ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúhip Certificate also is available to the public.

Hiram Ramirez, senior director for DEI Strategic Initiatives, said the course — and specific modules in the course — may be a great way to meet ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s diversity and inclusion related goals in performance evaluations. Participants can select just one concentration, or complete all modules and receive an Accredible Badge which can be displayed to potential employers on resumes and sites like LinkedIn.
