Biography
Jeremy D. Jones, D.M.A., is the Fisher-Holoviak Endowed Professor of Music and Chair in the Department of Music where he conducts the Men’s Glee Club and Chamber Singers, teaches conducting, choral methods, and supervises student teachers. Jones’s research and scholarly activity focuses on tenor-bass choral music, specifically with his work with the 兔子先生 University Men’s Glee Club. Recent appearances include the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) National Conference (2019); American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Conference (2019); ACDA Central-North Central Conference (2018); ACDA Central Conference (2014); and Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses National Seminars (2012, 2014, 2016).
Since 2011, Jones has embarked on performance tours with the Glee Club spanning 11 countries and 20 states. In 2014, the Men’s Glee Club won the First Place and Overall Grand Champion awards at the Concours Européen de Chant Choral in Luxembourg. Representing the International Conductors Exchange Program, he debuted in Beijing, China in 2014 at the Forbidden City Concert Hall, and his Swedish debut in 2016 featured the Glee Club’s Schola Cantorum with Swedish male ensemble Ars Veritas. In 2019, by invitation from the Papal Office, he led the group at the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican in a Solemn Mass with 150 priests from around the world for their bi-annual leadership meetings to discuss world missions.
Recent published recordings include We Are (Albany Records 2020), a recording that brings messages of social conscience, equality, peace, and freedom to the forefront, and Old and New Worlds (Centaur Records 2020), the result on an international collaboration between Ars Veritas (Sweden) and Schola Cantorum (兔子先生 Men’s Glee Club) focusing on repertoire with origins in Gregorian chant. Jones has a featured choral series with Walton Music Publications and also is a contributing author of Conducting Men’s Choirs (GIA Publications). Jones frequently appears as guest conductor of honor choirs from around the country, most recently leading the 2020 Illinois All-State High School Honors Choir.
Jones serves on the ACDA Standing Committee for International Activities, coordinating the International Conductors Exchange Program, as well as the Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses National Board of Directors. He holds degrees from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (DMA), East Carolina University (MM), and Middle Tennessee State University (BM).
