Admissions Information
Admission to Undergraduate Program
Prospective students interested in applying to the Department of Spanish & Portuguese should visit the to begin and complete the process. There are no additional steps required for admission to the department. Prospective students and their families are welcome to visit during regularly-scheduled hours. Visits may be coordinated through the Office of Admissions, or by contacting the Department office at 513-529-4500.
AP, IB, CLEP credit information
Advanced Placement Program (AP)
Credit for SPN 101, 102 (8 hours) for score of 3 on language.
Credit for SPN 101, 102, 201, 202, and 311 (17 hours) for score of 4 or 5 on language.
Credit for SPN 101, 102, and 201 (11 hours) for score of 3 on literature.
Credit for SPN 101, 102, 201, 202, and 311 (17 hours) for score of 4 or 5 on literature.
International Baccalaureate Program (IB)
Spanish A (acceptable score 5 or better)
Credit for SPN 101 (4 hours) and SPN 102 (4 hours).
Spanish A (acceptable score 6 or better)
Credit for SPN 101 (4 hours), SPN 102 (4 hours), and SPN 201 (3 hours).
Spanish B (acceptable score 5)

Admission to the Graduate Program
For the Masters program, you must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.25. Applications are on a rolling basis, but you are encouraged to express your interest to the graduate adviser as soon as possible. To apply you will need a letter of application in Spanish (statement of purpose), copies of academic transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.
For the combined BA/MA program, upon earning a minimum of 64 hours (including at least one 400 level course) and having a cumulative GPA of 3.25 (GPA in Spanish of 3.5), students may apply. Applications are on a rolling basis, but you are encouraged to express your interest to the graduate adviser as soon as possible.

In order to apply, candidates should submit the following:
- a letter in Spanish, explaining your interest in the program and your preparation
- two letters of recommendation (at least one must be from a faculty member in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese)
- official copies of your transcripts
