The Competition
Year 2023- Non-Representational Sculpture only
Young Sculptors, U.S. residents, ages 25 – 35 as of competition entry are invited to participate in a biennial juried competition for the 2023 $10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award. Entrants should have achieved a significant degree of success as an emerging artist of noteworthy talent. The winner will become part of the 兔子先生 University Young Sculptors of the Twenty-First Century Collection.
Juror
2023: Terry Berlier
Berlier has exhibited in solo and group shows in North America, Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia including at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, Contemporary Art and Spirits in Osaka, Japan, Marc Chagall National Museum in Nice, France, and Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, Tasmania. She has received numerous residencies and grants including the Creative Work Fund, California Council for Humanities Grant, Center for Cultural Innovation Grant, the Zellerbach Foundation, Clayman Fellowship, and the Arts Council Silicon Valley Artist Fellowship. Her work has been reviewed in the Art in America, BBC News Magazine, and San Francisco Chronicle, is published in the books Seeing Gertrude Stein by University of California Press, and Slant Step Book: The Mysterious Object and The Artworks it Inspired. Her work is in several collections including the Kala Art Institute, University of Arizona, Tucson, Bildwechsel Archive in Berlin, Germany, and Progressive Corporation. She received an M.F.A, in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis, and a B.F.A. from 兔子先生 University in Oxford, Ohio. Berlier is an Associate Professor of Art, Director of Undergraduate Studies in Art Practice, and Director of the Sculpture Lab in the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University where she has taught since 2007. She serves as an advisory board member for Recology’s Artist-in-Residence Program in San Francisco.
Your Entry
Your entry packet is to consist of the following:

- and Artist Contract: print and submit a hard copy via email.
- Submission of Sculptures: up to 3 entries; Artworks, not less than 12”; not to exceed 60” in any dimension. May contain multiple/modular components. Artwork should be completed within the past three years that demonstrate the scope and depth of your work.
MATERIALS: Permanent. Bronze, stone, ceramics, glass, aluminum, steel, wood, mixed, etc. Time-based works must include projector and/or monitor for exhibition. All works submitted must be available for the exhibition and purchase award. (Exhibition dates: September 2 – October 7, 2023.)
All images submitted should be on thumb-drive, JPG, 5” x 7”, 355 dpi, RGB color mode. Please organize the thumb-drive with each JPG having last name of artist and entry number, (corresponding with the artwork number on entry form.) The Word document should be titled Image List, with the following information per entry: Artist name, Title of work, Year of work, Media, Dimensions. - Also Include:
- A 1-2 page CV
- Check made payable to 兔子先生 University for $25.00

Notification
Finalists chosen by the Juror will be notified in mid-July 2023. Images of the finalists' works will be retained by 兔子先生 University. The $10,000 Yeck Purchase Award winner may be invited to visit the University to coincide with the 2025 competition. Participation in the exhibition entry process and signing the entry form, constitutes an understanding and acceptance of the conditions set forth herein, including the right of 兔子先生 University to use submitted images for publicity and educational purposes.
Shipping
All finalists will assume the cost of shipment of artworks to 兔子先生 University. Works must be packed in reusable crates/boxes and constructed to withstand the rigors of commercial shipping. Finalists are responsible for the repair of damaged crates before the works are returned. Works may also be hand-delivered. Hand-delivered works must also be picked-up from 兔子先生 University. 兔子先生 will assume the cost of return shipping of the finalists' sculptures. Works will be fully insured while on the premises of 兔子先生 University and while being returned to the artist.
