Democracy and Citizenship in Action
Through programs like citizenship ceremonies, Democracy and Citizenship Week, and events featuring candidates, debates, and expert panels, the Menard Family Center for Democracy fosters active civic engagement and informed participation. These initiatives provide opportunities for students and the community to connect with politic, law, and other critical fields shaping democratic life.
Ohio U.S. Senate Republican Primary Debate
The Menard Center works with local news outlets to bring candidates to the University opening up this important part of the election process to students, faculty/staff, and citizens in the region.
This year the center hosted the Ohio U.S. Senate Republican Primary Debate on March 6, 2024, with candidates, Matt Dolan, Frank LaRose, and Bernie Moreno.
Meet Local Candidates
Janus Forum
The JANUS Forum provides a place for members of the community to come together and discuss opposing views freely and passionately, and where students can explore the multitude of views that exist, and then arrive at their own opinions.
Naturalization Ceremonies
We are pleased to host many of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio for the formal swearing-in of new U.S. citizens. Many times this event is part of and the culmination of our Democracy and Citizenship week where we engage students in the process of our democracy and enhance their understanding of being a citizen.
