Students may schedule in-person tutoring sessions with RLC tutors during normal office hours of Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Online appointments with RLC tutors will vary and may include tutoring availability during the day, in the evenings, or during weekend hours.

You can access RLC Tutoring by utilizing the TutorTrac scheduling system. To schedule with a RLC tutor, please visit  and follow the scheduling instructions on the screen.

In-person tutoring sessions will take place in Shriver Center, Room 308. For online tutoring sessions, you will log on to the TutorTrac homepage 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment, and a Zoom link will be available to log on to the session. Preparing for Tutoring Appointments

Preparing for tutoring sessions requires significant work on the part of the student as well as the tutor. If you are seeking a tutor, prepare to get the most out of your session by following these tips:

  • Check your mic/video capabilities on your computer prior to your session. While it’s possible to attend zoom sessions on a tablet or phone, using a PC or Mac is most suitable. While you should be able to use any browser, Chrome appears to be the most compatible for online tutoring sessions.
  • Minimize possible distractions. During your session, it’s important that your focus and attention are on the appointment. Try to find a quiet environment without distractions or background noise.
  • Locate the zoom link for your tutoring session on the homepage of TutorTrac approximately 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. Know what you want to cover. Bring pertinent texts, notes, assignments and--most of all--your questions. The more specific your purpose, the more on target a tutor can be.
  • Attend all class sessions. Your notes from class are the best resource on course content and determining exactly how your instructor is prioritizing the information.
  • Complete all assigned reading prior to the tutoring appointment. This will give you the necessary foundation to talk about the material with your tutor.
  • Attempt the homework questions or assignment before you meet with your tutor. This will help you identify the specific areas you need help with.
  • Create a plan for how you want to spend the time in your tutoring session. If you take control of the session format you will likely receive the assistance you want more quickly than if your tutor sets the agenda.
  • If you did not already set up weekly/recurring appointments for your session, please inform your tutor if you would like to make your session a weekly occurrence. Regular review is the key to understanding course information.

Tutoring Policies

Generally, tutoring requires students to be active partners in their learning

  • We require that students come to appointments prepared to discuss problems from their classes
  • A tutor will not directly help students with course assignments, as this would be an academic integrity violation. The tutor can guide a student through the process of an assignment and support the student on the concepts required for the assignment.
  • In addition, we require that students commit to attending their tutoring appointments
    • If you need to miss an appointment, you may cancel online via  up to 4 hours prior to your appointment time.
    • Missed appointments are subject to a $15 fee.
    • Students who miss or cancel more than three appointments in a semester may have all remaining appointments canceled without notice and may be unable to schedule future appointments. You may email tutoring@miamioh.edu if you are unable to cancel your appointment online.

What do tutors expect from their clients?

  • Client will arrive to appointments on time
  • Client will arrive to sessions prepared and ready to work in the tutoring partnership
  • Client will bring all necessary materials and update the tutor on course expectations
  • Client will remain at the tutoring session for the full 50 minutes
  • Client will work with tutor to schedule the next appointments for the semester
  • Clients will only cancel appointments in rare cases. When such cases arise clients will cancel the appointment online via Tutortrac at least 4 hours before the scheduled appointment to avoid a $15 no show charge.

What can clients expect of their tutor?

  • Tutor will arrive to appointments on time
  • Tutor will arrive to sessions prepared and ready to work in the tutoring partnership
  • Tutor will promote independent learning and respect your input
  • Tutor will not do your assigned work but will support your efforts and guide you through the process
  • Tutors will only cancel appointments in rare cases. When such cases arise tutors will cancel the appointment via the TutorTrac system at least 36 hours before the scheduled appointment to avoid disciplinary action. The tutor will then work with the client to reschedule the appointment.
