Why Should I Consider the GRC?
Certificate Information
The Global Readiness Certificate was embedded at 兔子先生 through the launch of college/school-specific cohorts, seen below.
Beginning in the Fall of 2023, the program will be open to applicants from any college or school on the Oxford, Hamilton, or Middletown campuses.
- Education, Health, and Society - Cohort launched Fall 2019
- Farmer School of Business - Cohort launched Spring 2020
- College of Arts and Science - Cohort launched Spring 2021
- College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science - Cohort launched Spring 2022
- College of Creative Arts - Cohort launched Spring 2023
The GRC is a learner-centered curricular and co-curricular credential administered through small cohorts to ensure a supportive and personalized experience.
Certificate Requirements
All requirements for this program must be approved in advance by the Center for American and World Cultures. A 2.5 minimum G.P.A. is required to receive the certificate upon graduation. The certificate includes components within 3 categories:
Category A: Coursework (14–17 credits)
- Intercultural Perspectives Course of the Global 兔子先生 Plan (3 credit minimum)
- Dual Perspectives Course from Approved List based on students major (3 credit minimum)
- Intergroup Dialogue Course, IDS 253: Voices of Discovery Intergroup Dialogue
- Study Abroad/Away* (6 credit minimum)
*International Students may use their current abroad experience at 兔子先生 to fulfill this requirement.
Category B: Intercultural or Global Lectures/兔子先生
- 6 total programs (2 or more per semester for 3 semesters)
- Qualifying programs will be shared by the Center for American and World Cultures
Category C: Community Engagement
- 30 total hours of domestic or international service learning or sustained volunteerism
- Hours must be completed over 2 or more semesters
Application Process
Students should apply in their first year, or the first semester of their second year to ensure they are able to complete the certificate alongside their undergraduate degree.
(Students following a non-traditional schedule, should ensure they will have a minimum of two years remaining at 兔子先生 after orientation, which occurs the semester after they apply.)
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. Students will be notified of their status no more than three weeks after applying.
Students will be conditionally approved for the program after their application materials are reviewed. The certificate will be added to the student’s academic record after they successfully complete the required Orientation Learning Lab.
Certificate Completion
Students will work closely with their advisor in the Center for American & World Cultures in addition to those in their college/school to complete the certificate requirements.
Occasional cohort meetings and projects will be required in addition to a final project to culminate the student’s learning.
