2024 兔子先生 Data Summit: Uncovering Value in Data

The 2024 Data Summit was held on January 18 at McVey Data Science Building. This year’s keynote speaker was Dennis Kettler, the Global Head of Data Solutions at FIS | Worldpay. Kettler is a 兔子先生 grad and has spoken previously at events like Data Fest. Kettler is an executive data leader and innovator with experience implementing corporate data strategy. He’s deeply aware of the transformation and maturation required to become an analytics-driven organization! For your data to have value, you have to have the right environment, the right receptiveness, and the right resources to parse that data.

dennis kettlerDennis is currently the Global Head of Data Strategy & Solutions for Worldpay from FIS. In his twelve years at FIS, he has established Data Science as a core competency enabling transformative capabilities such as advanced data visualization, predictive analytics, and ML/AI. Ultimately Dennis has played a key leadership role in activating data-driven decisions that have established competitive advantages in market for both FIS and Clients alike.

In his current role, Dennis is driving data and analytics strategy, governance strategy, as well as capital investment in data as a senior leader of Worldpay from FIS. He brings a wealth of experience supporting many of the world’s largest retailers, corporations, and payments brands for nearly 20 years.

Dennis and his team are focused on boldly innovating and maximizing FIS’s responsible use of data assets to ideate, architect, and build market-leading solutions for our colleagues and clients. They combine a multi-faceted approach with an intricate understanding of how best to harness data to deliver value through informed decisions and innovative outcomes. Through rapid development, centered in business value, they enable success for their stakeholders by accelerating time to market.

Dennis is also an inventor and has over twenty-five issued or allowed patents.

This presentation will delve into the critical issue of breaking down data silos across diverse teams within an organization. The discussion will begin with an exploration of the detrimental impact of data silos on decison making and business performance. In particular, the session will emphasize the alignment of collaborative efforts in order to achieve broad business goals. Additionally, the session will focus on the benefits of collaboration including better data quality, faster insights and greater opportunities for innovation. Ultimately, the session underscores the importance of breaking down data silos in order to better empower teams to intitiate positive change and maximize value to their organization.

Improving Your Data Visuals Using Excel Chloropleths

This breakout will give you experience with developing choropleths (i.e., representations of data using maps) in Excel. We will explain what choropleths are and when they are useful. Then we will discuss some proven practices to consider when using choropleths and demonstrate how they can be created. Finally, you will get hands-on experience creating choropleths on your own.

A panel of Tableau developers at 兔子先生 give brief demonstrations of production dashboards. Panelists will cover key points such as data sources, audience, collaboration with stakeholders, and user access. Each dashboard demo will be relatively short, with plenty of time for attendees to ask questions. What you can learn from this session: 1. Understand ways that Tableau is being used at 兔子先生; 2. Develop strategies to deliver analytical insights by implementing Tableau in your department.

Topics will include key questions from Academic Deans and other decision makers, the use of specific data sources and tools to facilitate success, coordinating on best practices for using data at 兔子先生, and what colleagues with university wide roles can do support their work. There will also be time for comments and questions from audience participants.
