The patients at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University Student Health Services:

• are treated with dignity and respect
• receive care regardless of race, sex, religion, color, national origin, or sexual preference
• are provided privacy as stated in the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) whichever is more stringent
• can expect information and medical records to be kept confidential and have the right to approve/disapprove the release of their record, except as required by law
• have the right to information about diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and possible complications. When it is not medically advisable to give such information to the patient, the information shall be given on his/her behalf to the patient’s next of kin or other designee have the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process except when contraindicated for medical purposes
• have the right to refuse treatment
• have the right to informed consent prior to a surgical procedure
• are free to choose clinician or change provider at any time
• have the right to request referral or change of provider/specialist
• can expect to receive quality outpatient care will be referred to specialist/emergency care as appropriate
• have the right to an explanation of Student Health Services fees
• have the right to comment, complain and compliment the Student Health Service and its individual staff members.
