The focus of my lab group’s research in southwest Ohio is on understanding what streams were like prior to European settlement. The extirpation of beavers, removal of wood from channels, and widespread deforestation and plowing had a major impact on local streams. In order to inform stream restoration design, we are using the historic and geologic records to understand what these streams were like prior to these major impacts.
