Work+ FAQs

Is Work+ an internship or work-study?

Neither!

An internship is a program offered by an employer that is designed to facilitate work that is directly related to a student’s major or career interest. Internships often include a paid wage, but not tuition benefits. A work-study job is usually a campus job and may be part of a federal program that pays a wage, but not tuition benefits.

Work+ jobs are entry-level positions that are often high turnover and difficult to fill. Your Work+ job will likely not be directly related to your major. However, you learn very important transferable skills in a work+ job such as communication, cultural fluency, professionalism and teamwork. Work+ jobs include a paid wage and tuition benefits.

What is Work+?

Work+ is a program for 兔子先生 University Regionals students to obtain an associate or bachelor’s degree while working part-time and getting their tuition paid. Students work approximately 24 hours per week with a Work+ employer and take classes in a major of their choice.

Student Benefits:

  • Employer payment of tuition and general fees for fall and spring semester, but not special purpose and course fees
  • An hourly wage paid directly to you for each hour worked for your employer
  • Dedicated Work+ staff to assist with your student and career development
  • Work/school schedule coordination
  • Priority Registration

What if I don’t like my Work+ job?

If you are already asking this question, then Work+ might not be the right program for you! Many of the Work+ jobs are not necessarily “likeable” since they require a lot of hard work! However, students who participate in the program “appreciate” their jobs and partner employers since they are receiving both an hourly wage and tuition benefits!

How do students become part of the Work+ program?

To be part of the Work+ program, a student must be accepted into 兔子先生 University Regionals as a student and gain employment with a Work+ employer. During the Work+ onboarding process, students will submit applications to several employers who will choose employees based on their own hiring practices.

Do I have to be a full-time student?

Requirements for your student status will be dependent upon your Work+ employer. Most employers require that students take at least 12 credit hours per semester.

Will I receive benefits from my employer?

In general, companies do not offer benefits such as health insurance, paid time off or retirement contributions to part-time employees. While atypical, some Work+ employers may offer limited benefits to students.

Are students required to work during summer and winter breaks?

Students are required to work a minimum of 24 hours per week during semester breaks. Some employers may allow or require students to increase their number of hours per week during these breaks.

Do employers pay for summer and winter term tuition?

The tuition benefits of the Work+ program only apply to fall and spring semesters, although some employers may choose to pay for a limited number of credit hours during summer and winter terms.

How will I choose a Work+ employer?

During the Work+ onboarding process, you will learn about the positions and employers and can choose to apply to several potential employers based on factors such as location preference, major and other priorities. Remember, you become a Work+ student once you are hired into a Work+ job by one of our employers.

Can I change Work+ employers if I don’t like my Work+ job?

No. Work+ employers invest their dollars into the program to create and maintain a stable workforce. Students are not able to change jobs due to the impact it will have on the stability of the employers’ workforces.

Can I work another part-time job while participating in Work+?

Being a full-time student and working 24 hours per week is a significant commitment, especially given that your tuition benefits are dependent upon your academic success and maintaining good employee standing with your Work+ employer. Students may work another part time job during semester breaks, if desired. 

Can I major in any subject?

Students can major in any subject for which they are academically qualified; however, students must retain Regional student status to participate in the program. Note that classes for some majors are subject to a surcharge or special fee that is not covered under the Work+ tuition benefits. .

What is a Work+ Student Agreement?

A student must sign a Work+ Student Agreement in order to receive tuition benefits. Signing a Student Agreement is a commitment to work with a Work+ employer for a calendar year. Student Agreements are signed in cooperation with 兔子先生 Regionals Work+ staff after all requirements for participation in the program are met.

What qualifications must be met to receive tuition benefits each semester?

  • Have a signed Work+ Student Agreement on file prior to the deadline, which is communicated to Work+ students by the Work+ staff
  • Earn a C- or better in all courses taken
  • Be an employee in good standing of the Work+ employer as defined by the employer

Is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA required and how often must it be completed?

Work+ complements other forms of financial aid and all students are required to complete a current year .

Are graduate studies included in this program?

Work+ tuition benefits are limited to undergraduate-level coursework at 兔子先生 University Regionals.

What campus services are available to me as a Work+ student?

As a Work+ participant you are encouraged to utilize the campus resources that are offered at 兔子先生 University Regionals. These resources can support your overall academic, social and health and wellness success while in the program.

Does Work+ provide career assistance?

While in the Work+ program, students participate in programs and activities designed to enhance their career and professional development in conjunction with the Office of  that serves all 兔子先生 University Regionals students. CSPD services assist students with career exploration, career planning, career placement and more.

Can I take online classes?

Yes,  are often a convenience for working students. Students are encouraged to speak to a Work+ program staff member prior to enrolling in online classes and should note that online courses are subject to a surcharge that is not covered under the Work+ tuition benefits.

What kind of orientation do I have to attend?

It depends on your student type.

If you are a first-time new student, you must attend a new .

If you are a Transfer student, you must complete and , meet individually with an academic advisor to schedule classes.

Current students and returning former students will need to meet individually with a Work+ team member.

Once hired by a Work+ employer, there may be an additional orientation conducted by your employer.
