Workday Training: Phase I and II Classes Now Available for Scheduling

Efficient and effective training is a top priority for the 兔子先生 Workday project team to ensure the successful adoption of the system. There are numerous learning opportunities available that will continue through our go-live on July 1 and beyond.

兔子先生 staff attending a 兔子先生 Roadshow with Sarah Persinger presenting the information. These opportunities will be presented in a variety of methods, including live Zoom sessions, recordings for on-demand viewing, and hands-on sessions at computer labs across our campuses, as well as at the Staff Development Center. Training will include program-specific and role-based opportunities, as well as employee self-service and manager self-service functions.

It is important to note that there will be a specified training environment for you to practice Workday tasks. What does this mean for you as a trainee? It means you have the freedom to work through processes and tasks without the fear of potentially altering the system or impacting real-world scenarios. It is a “sandbox” for you to play in and familiarize yourself with the system.

Registering for Classes

You are now able to sign up for courses through 兔子先生 Learn by clicking the links below.

The Phase I course is called . This course will cover basic Workday system navigation, search functionality, and an overview of Employee Self-Service functions. It also provides hands-on access to our Training/TEST system and serves as a prerequisite for any other advanced course topics (such as job posting, job changes, compensation element adjustments, and monthly cost center review). There are both in-person and virtual, instructor-led options available.

There are two Phase II (Advanced) Training classes. These courses will NOT cover basic navigation; therefore, all employees are strongly encouraged to take the course Workday System Navigation & Employee Profile Review before taking later courses. It is recommended that everyone take Part A. Only attend Part B if you engage in the activities listed in the description below.

The in-person courses are in computer labs across all campuses and there is no need to bring your own laptop. Remote sessions have also been added, with more to come!

  • This course will cover basic self-service tasks that employees will use regularly. Participants will learn how to enter time (hourly) as well as how to request time off (salaried and hourly.) Other self-service tasks will be covered including how to view your paycheck and leave balances.

  • This course will cover basic financial tasks including how to create, submit and view expense reports and how to create spend authorizations for anticipated expenses. We will also cover Workday processes for P-card transactions and purchase requisitions.

Preparing for Training in Computer Labs

Phase I and Phase II classes are being held in computer labs on the various campuses, as well as the Staff Development Center. Because of this, you will need to log in to a training computer, so please make sure you have the ability to sign in to Duo once you arrive at your session.

There will be additional offerings of Phase I and Phase II sessions scheduled outside of a computer lab for you to use your own laptop - these are going to be referred to as “BYOD - Bring Your Own Device” sessions and will be clearly identified in the course offering so you know you’ll be able to use your own computer and not a lab computer.

Additional Advanced Training

Additional advanced training classes are being scheduled directly by the Human Resources and Academic Personnel offices with individuals around the University who have been identified as department liaisons, managers, and student employee managers. These classes will cover recruiting, human capital management, attendance, and absences.
