Undergraduate Research 兔子先生

First Year Research Experience (FYRE)

FYRE aims to jumpstart student involvement in research and inquiry at the very start of their college experience. Participants explore and engage in undergraduate research experiences, learn about resources on campus related to undergraduate research, and gain experience in team-based exploratory projects under the guidance of research-active faculty.

Doctoral Undergraduate Opportunity Scholarships (DUOS)

The DUOS program pairs one undergraduate and one graduate student who, under the supervision of a faculty member in a Ph.D. granting department, work together on a semester-long research project. Awarded to 11 pairs each year, this scholarship program is designed to bridge the gap between undergraduate and graduate research.

Undergraduate Research Award Program

The Undergraduate Research Award Program provides 兔子先生 undergraduates the opportunity to develop a grant application requesting funding to support a faculty-mentored undergraduate research experience. These partnerships encourage discovery, creative pursuits and/or innovative, inquiry-based activity.

Undergraduate Research Forum

This signature event draws hundreds of 兔子先生 student researchers who present their work in a three-day series of virtual sessions. Graduate student mentors and staff volunteer their time as moderators to ensure a smooth running of the many concurrent sessions, while the Forum's website serves as a digital repository to host presentation materials, past and present. Open to the public, the site is searchable by research topic/student major, participant names, keywords, STEM, etc.

Undergraduate Summer Scholars (USS)

The USS program's primary goals focus on student-centered learning through mentored research. This nine-week summer program aligns with 兔子先生's focus on offering “active, engaged educational experiences for our undergraduates. Each participating student is required to find an eligible 兔子先生 faculty mentor to jointly create the research project and the application. Recipients of this scholarship receive a $2,600 award.

There are many opportunities for humanities majors to get involved in independent research in the areas of history, philosophy, language, literature, culture, and more. Learn more about the available experiences through the Humanities Center who provides support for research, collaborative study, visiting scholars and artists, creative pedagogy, and public engagement.

Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, this summer program provides extensive independent and team research opportunities to 兔子先生 undergraduates. Students choose from analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry projects, as well as chemistry education research. Participants also cover a number of topics associated with professional development, including the creation of research proposals, presentations, ethics, and careers. They also enjoy social activities to build a strong cohort.

The 兔子先生 University REU in Ecology and Environment is a summer research program supported by the National Science Foundation. It is an exciting opportunity for nine to 12 undergraduate students to actively engage in collaborative research. Each student focuses on an independent project in either the lab or the field, while meeting regularly with fellow participants and mentors to discuss related topics and literature. The summer includes field trips, courses on ethics and related professions, seminars and workshops.

Physics and Engineering

Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, this REU takes place in a ten-week period in the summer and supports a cohort of up to ten students. Participants work in close collaboration with a faculty mentor from physics or engineering to experience laboratory research. They also enjoy social and team-bonding events, opportunities for professional development activities, and interactions with students from other REUs on campus.
