Accelerated Affiliation Overview

Looking to get affiliated with the Miller Center and don’t feel a meeting is necessary? This process is for you!

  • An Accelerated Affiliation option is available for students who would like SDS to consider specific accommodation requests without scheduling a meeting.
  • This option may be helpful for students who know what accommodations they are seeking or have previous experience with academic accommodations, and those accommodations are on the list below.
    • If you are requesting accommodations not listed under the accelerated affiliation option, please select the Oxford Student Application. (For example: accommodations related to assignments, housing, participation, etc.)
  • At this time, Accelerated Affiliation can only be considered for the following types of accommodations:
    • Testing accommodations: Extended test time: 1.5x or 2x, small group distraction reduced environment
    • Note taking accommodations: Ability to audio record lectures, advanced access to classroom materials, access to an electronic device for note taking
    • Classroom accommodations: Breaks as necessary, access to food/beverage/medical device
    • Scheduling accommodations: Time of day accommodations, reduced course load
  • Miller Center Access Coordinators will only approve accommodations on the list above through the Accelerated Affiliation process. If you include any additional accommodations not included on this list, we will inform you of the need to schedule an access consultation to further discuss your accommodation requests.
  • The Accelerated Affiliation process may allow you to cut down your wait time for an access consultation, and potentially allow you to receive certain accommodations more quickly.
  • At any time, you may choose to meet with an access coordinator to discuss the request process or other SDS resources and supports. At a later time, if you would like to request additional accommodations, you may do so, which would require meeting with an access coordinator, and potentially additional disability verifying documentation.
  • You must submit your New Student Application AND documentation at the same time to use this option.

Accelerated Affiliation Process

Follow the steps below to submit an application for disability services through the Accelerated Affiliation process.

  1. Submit Application: Students must complete the  AND must provide documentation at the time of application submission to receive Accelerated Consideration. Note: The application cannot be submitted without documentation uploaded.
    • Application Requirements: Students pursuing the Accelerated Affiliation option should provide thorough responses to the questions within the application to help the Miller Center understand why the requested accommodations are academically necessary due to disability.
    • Documentation Requirements: Documentation reviewed within the Accelerated Affiliation process must include the following components:
      • Specific reference to a disability or diagnosis
      • Specific recommendation for accommodations listed within the Accelerated Affiliation accommodation option list
      • Details from the documentation author as to why the recommended accommodations are necessary to address functional impacts related to the disability/diagnosis. The documentation cannot only state that the accommodation is necessary because of ‘X’ disability/diagnosis. The Miller Center needs to understand the purpose behind the accommodation.
  2. Miller Center Review: An Access Coordinator will review your application and documentation upon submission. Within three business days, you will be notified if any accommodations are approved through Accelerated Affiliation or if an Access Consultation needs to be scheduled.
  3. When Accommodations are Approved: If accommodations are determined to be reasonable through Accelerated Affiliation, the student will receive an email with instructions and the next steps. Students may still choose to schedule a meeting to discuss the process for using approved accommodations. Students may also choose to request other accommodations after approval, which would require a meeting with a Miller Center Access Coordinator.
  4. When More Information is Needed: If the application or documentation does not provide the necessary information to determine reasonable accommodations through Accelerated Affiliation, the student will receive an email with steps to schedule an Access Consultation.
