Enhancing Caring Communities: A Toolkit for Organizations to Better Support Caregivers

Getting Started

This toolkit was developed to help community-based organizations improve services and support to family and friend (unpaid) caregivers. It was created with input from 46 professionals representing 23 home- and community-based organizations operating in 15 states that participated in the National Caregiving Learning Collaborative. The toolkit is divided into five steps, with interactive organizational assessments and additional resources to help you navigate the process. For each step, we provide a template for your organization to use and examples of completed assessments from two National Caregiving Learning Collaborative participant organizations.

Step 1

Identify how your organization currently serves and supports caregivers.

Step 2

Look for a service gap and consider ways to fill it.

Step 3

Choose a program to support caregivers based on the gap you identified.

Step 4

Plan and pilot the program you have chosen.

Step 5

Implement and evaluate your program.
