English Language Learner Writing Center

The mission of the English Language Learner Writing Center (ELLWC) is to provide one-on-one consulting to undergraduate and graduate multilingual student writers. Through collaborative peer interaction, supportive and well-trained consultants help students, whose first language is not English, become more confident users of English academic language and effective, autonomous writers across genres and disciplines. We ensure opportunities for student writers to understand and practice multiple proofreading, self-editing, and polishing strategies as well as improve their English language skills necessary for achieving academic and professional success.

Effective September 3 to October 27 - Hours for October 28 to December 6 will be posted in Mid-October.

In-Person Appointments

MacMillan Hall, Room 15

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 12:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Important: To access the ELLWC, use the parking-lot entrance in the back of the building. 

On Sunday, the entrance door opens at 1:45pm.

Written Online Appointments

  • Tuesday:
    • 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
    • 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • or 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Choose Your Appointment Type

The English Language Learner Writing Center (ELL WC) encourages all multilingual students to schedule an appointment when they need assistance in improving any writing project, including papers, PowerPoint presentations, resumes, cover letters, and applications. The appointment lasts 45 minutes or less.

Our People

Dr. Larysa Bobrova, Coordinator

As a coordinator of the ELL WC, Larysa Bobrova’s goal is to support multilingual student writers and faculty. She received her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University specializing in cognitive semantics and second language acquisition. Her teaching and scholarly interests lie in second language writing pedagogy and teacher education. She enjoys sharing innovative teaching strategies with faculty for teaching multilingual students. In her teaching, she aims to bring together rigorous theoretical enquiry with language pedagogy attempting to enhance the learning process by making it both productive and enjoyable.

Our consultants are ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú undergraduate students from diverse majors and with a variety of interests.

Meet the Team

Alexa is a BA/MA student majoring in History. She often writes creatively, and this is her second year working at the ELLWC.

Clare is double majoring in Political Science and English Literature. She enjoys reading in her free time and plans on applying to law school in the upcoming year.

Fiona is a senior double majoring in Creative Writing and Professional Writing with a minor in Film Studies. Once she graduates, she hopes to be published within a year and intends to pursue a master's degree. She is president of ACW and is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.

Grace is a junior Integrated English Language Arts Education major with a minor in English Literature. She works as a substitute teacher in local school districts during breaks and is currently a Head SEAL Ambassador. Grace hopes to work as a high school English teacher after graduation.

Ian is a graduate student pursuing his Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. He has studied Deaf culture and ASL academically and aspires to learn more about language development.

Letha is a senior Professional Writing and Fashion Corporate Business double major. They serve as Program Chair for Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity on campus, and are involved in Choraliers, ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú's treble chorus, as well as Sigma Tau Delta, an English honor society. Letha is currently studying Korean and hopes to teach English abroad after graduation before attending law school.

Madalyn is a senior majoring in Speech Pathology & Audiology. This is her third year working as a consultant for the ELLWC. She pursues her interest in language daily through her speech-aimed courses here at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú. Once she graduates, she hopes to work as a pediatric speech-language pathologist, helping children work through and overcome speech/swallowing disorders.

Olivia is a junior double majoring in Creative Writing and Professional Writing with a minor in Political Science. After graduation, she hopes to work at a publishing firm as an editor or a literary agent. She is currently a poetry and prose editor for The Femellectual, a literary publication on campus focused on intersectional feminism.
