Diplomacy Lab

The Diplomacy Lab is a public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of State and more than 60 institutions of higher education around the country, including ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University, that crowdsources faculty and student research to help U.S. diplomats solve pressing problems all around the globe.

Welcome to the Lab

Thank you for visiting ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú's Diplomacy Lab. Operating in its current form since 2021, the Lab facilitates a unique experiential learning model where faculty and students get hands-on experience tackling real-world issues facing U.S. diplomats at embassies and consulates around the world. Through applied research, our faculty and students get to have a direct impact on the formation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.

Our Program

Mission:

The Diplomacy Lab, in support of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s educational mission, harnesses faculty expertise and fresh student perspectives to conduct research on foreign policy issues and national security threats facing the United States of America. Through experiential learning, faculty guide students through real-world challenges identified by the State Department to provide policymakers with practical research solutions to inform their decision-making processes.

Vision:

The Diplomacy Lab seeks to advance the security and prosperity of the United States government and its citizens and the formation of a generation of engaged citizens who understand how to use knowledge and research to positively change the world.

Values:

The Diplomacy Lab’s work is guided and informed by ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s belief and commitment to honesty, integrity, transparency, participation, collaboration, and moral conduct. The lab supports the freedom of inquiry that is the heart of learning and combines that freedom with the exercise of judgment and the acceptance of personal responsibility.
