After your admission into the MCE Program, there remains key checkpoints (called “benchmarks”) that you must satisfy in order to continue progression in the MCE Program. Students can submit a petition for an exception to these requirements if a particular benchmark has not been met. The petition will be evaluated by the academic advisor and the EDT petitions committee. The details of the  MCE benchmarks are outlined below:

Benchmark 1 – Entrance to Program

1. Complete EDT 190 and EDP 201 with a grade of B or higher in each course
2. Complete 30 graded credit hours or more
3. Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
4. Score at or above the 50th* percentile in Reading and Math on the ACT or SAT and successfully complete a required Writing assessment in EDP 201. For 2020-2021 the required ACT/SAT scores are:

*Percentile scores may fluctuate and change each academic year

Benchmark 2 – MCE Methods Block (year 3)

• 2.75 cumulative GPA
• Completion of 64 total hours or more
• Successful completion of Early Field Block courses – EDT246M, EDT252M and EDL318M with a grade of C or higher
  • Assessment 2A-Successful completion of Field Experience
  • Assessment 6A-Successful completion of Curriculum Project
• Dispositions Review
• Successful completion of 3 content courses in each content area with a 2.5 GPA in each content area

Benchmark 3 – Student Teaching (year 4)

• 2.75 cumulative GPA
• Completion of 96 total hours or more
• Successful completion of Content Integration Block courses – EDT441 (Science), EDT436 (Language Arts), EDT439 (Social Studies), EDT429M (Mathematics), EDT346M (Reading), EDT421M (Classroom Management) and EDP301M (Assessment) with a grade of C or higher
  • Assessment 1 – OAE – 2 Content Areas (Qualifying score for all content areas 220)
  • Assessment 2A – Successful completion of Field Experience
  • Assessment 3A – Successful completion of Integrated Unit Plan
  • Assessment 7A – Membership in Professional Organization
• Completion of the OAE content assessment for each concentration area (passing score is not required, but the content assessments must be completed prior to student teaching)
• Dispositions Review
• Successful completion of 20 hours of IPDP

Benchmark 4 – Graduation From Program

• 2.75 cumulative GPA
• Dispositions Review
• Successful completion of edTPA
• Completion of all course requirements (including ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Plan requirements)

Note: All  must be successfully completed prior to licensure, but that is not a graduation requirement.
