Embark on a thrilling educational odyssey this January with our immersive three-week study abroad program in Ahmedabad, India! From January 2nd to January 23th, students will explore the diverse landscape of Indian education. The program offers a unique opportunity to engage with students and teachers in a wide range of educational settings, from rural and urban schools to prestigious independent institutions and government-run facilities. Delving deeper into the complexities of Indian education, participants will also visit schools serving tribal communities, migrant workers, and religious minorities. When most people look out into a landscape, they are often confronted with the "green haze"; i.e. plants. The goal of this course is to train you how to penetrate the green haze and gain an appreciation of the incredible diversity of plants that exist. We hold this course in the Bahamas is because the diversity of plants is greater in the tropics; also, because this diversity is so different from Ohio, you will view it with fresh eyes. In the course, we will not only learn to recognize common species and families of tropic plants, we will visit multiple habitat types, from Pine forests to Mangrove swamps to small Cays and learn methods for measuring that diversity. In addition, we incorporate multiple activities and opportunities to learn more about the people and culture of the Bahamas. Explore ten centuries of French life in its capital city by immersing yourself in its language and culture. Students spend three and a half weeks studying major moments of French cultural history in its native language through an intensive six-credit 300-level course. With a rich heritage of property rights, global trade, and being the world’s financial hub, London is the best venue for the exploration of the roots of the common law system and banking. Your journey starts with an overnight stay in Madrid before traveling to Burgos, a small historic city boasting stunning medieval architecture. You will see the Burgos Cathedral, wander the Old Quarter, and have classes and company visits. Your Southern European journey then takes you to Florence, Italy for the final leg of this trip. This 兔子先生 University workshop (3 to 6 credit hours) will enable students interested in nursing and other health professions to work beside physicians and healthcare workers in Belize caring for residents in rural health clinics. The students will participate in village triage by assessing communities and residents for issues that affect health in the Central American country of Belize. This study abroad program takes place in Florence (Italy) with a trip to Siena. This program is set in London to expose students to the foundations of law and policy on which the US system is built. As the birthplace of Common Law, Great Britain holds many artifacts and institutions that have substantially shaped the legal system in the United States. The British political system also has many similarities and differences with the U.S. system, which offers the opportunity for introspection on U.S. policymaking while at the same time offering an opportunity for learning about governance from an international perspective. Travel to the 'Roof of the World' and experience life in the Himalayas of Nepal. We will trek with our local guides through the Himalayas as we experience what life is like at altitude. Some of the course takes place near spectacular snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Weather permitting, we will see several of the world's 8000+ meter peaks including Mt Everest. We will also visit and tour the cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara. This is a 3 credit hour program. Come along and journey with us through the jungles of Costa Rica. This outdoor leadership course begins with 2 days of class and outdoor skill development on Oxford's campus, followed by an 12 day field experience in Costa Rica. Make the Louvre your classroom; learn about the political philosophies that sparked the French Revolution at Versailles; and discover Hemingway’s Moveable Feast in the spaces that inspired authors of the Lost Generation. This three-week credit workshop focuses on Paris as a capital of transnational cultural and artistic production. Students study masterpieces of French and American literature and culture, from Medieval fables to experimental avant-gardes like Surrealism, to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s site-specific performance at the Louvre. Immersing students in a different culture than their own has deep potential to be a transformative experience, particularly when the focus is on field experiences and the intersectionality of families, communities, and education. This course will examine the evolution and challenges of humanitarian aid workers, with a particular focus on the role of the servant leader. Study locations will include Luxembourg and Geneva. Highlights of the Geneva study tour include: visiting the United Nations for a 3-day immersion program and a vist to the International Red Cross museum to learn about the roles of these organizations in humanitarian aid, as well as a chocolate tour and a day in the Alps. | NSG 399 (3) | |
The Sport, Management, and Culture in the Global Marketplace study abroad program is designed for students who are interested in exploring relationship between sport, culture, and the contemporary global economy through an experiential learning environment. For the 3-week program, students will travel to four cities (Auckland, Dunedin, Queenstown, and Wellington) to examine the structure, management, and marketing of sport in New Zealand culture and society. Students enrolled in the course will receive six (6) credits as SLM 246 and SLM 248 that will fulfill their Global 兔子先生 Plan. The Way of St. James is a journey like no other to deepen understandings of Spanish and European cultures (and, by extension, both Western civilization and pilgrimage studies) is something that anyone out of the hundreds of thousands who have done El Camino would be more than likely to corroborate. This course takes place during three weeks of the Winter Term while hiking along The Way of St. James (Camino Mozárabe and Camino Francés, a UNESCO world heritage site). Independently of the academic component of the course, each participant may have a different personal approach to The Way. A traveling experience, not only physical but also emotional, The Way of St. James may become a religious pilgrimage, an introspective encounter with oneself, an individual challenge of walking around 12-14 miles daily, or a cultural journey through a different space, and also a different time, as far back as the 11th century. | SPN 399A/599A (6) | |

Based for the first two weeks in Los Angeles, the workshop will provide an overview of the entertainment industry, including film and television preproduction, production and editing, script development, casting, entertainment law, administration and finance, development, distribution, and marketing. What happens when you take a select group of rockstar creativity students to one of the most innovative cities in the world to do real work for a real client? Big problems are tackled by big ideas. For the full 3 weeks of J-Term, students team up to tackle a client project using creative problem-solving, design thinking, and other applied creativity tools to create innovative solutions. The trip includes a week in the Bay Area where students live and work in the heart of San Francisco. During the week, students meet with some of the world’s leading creatives and most innovative companies to immerse them in new ways of thinking. This is an experiential course to give students an opportunity to learn and practice equity analysis skills in a real-world setting. After completing this course students will be able to conduct equity analysis using appropriate methodology. In addition, students will be able to develop and give an effective presentation on the merits of a particular position to industry executives.
