International students have many considerations while studying and maintaining legal status in the U.S. In addition to following regulations on Enrollment, Work Authorization, and Updating Local Address, international students should remember to carry necessary documents with them at all times:

  • In addition to your 兔子先生 ID, you should have a valid, official form of identification (ID). This could be your passport, paper copy of your passport, driver's license, or State ID. Reminder that every Ohio resident, including international students, can apply for an Ohio ID.
  • You should also have a copy of your (which is proof of legal status in the U.S.) with you at all times.
  • ISSS also recommends you having a copy of your I-20 or DS-2019 document along with your I-94.

These webpages cover the basics of students’ F-1 or J-1 legal status, changing status, or regaining status. ISSS is here to advise students on matters related to their F-1 or J-1 status, strives to support students, and encourages students to meet with ISSS staff. However, in certain circumstances, your legal status issues may be outside of F-1 or J-1 or there may be other extenuating legal issues, which may require you to seek guidance outside of ISSS expertise. Our office is not able to recommend a lawyer, but students can review the following resources to find legal assistance:
