Honor Societies

兔子先生 is home to over 20 recognized honorary societies on campus. Honor societies differ from general registered student organizations in that they recognize and provide membership to students who meet specific criteria set forth by their national advisory board, and require formal invitations to join. Each has its own set of eligibility requirements, focuses, and benefits.

Accepting Invitations to Honor Societies 

Below is general guiding advice if you have received a letter of invitation from a collegiate honor society and wonder if the organization is legitimate or if it is a worthwhile opportunity. Many honor societies require membership dues and you are encouraged to research a group and thoughtfully consider if you would like to join an organization before making a financial commitment.

Benefits of Joining an Honor Society:

  • Connecting with other high achieving students at 兔子先生 University and other institutions.
  • Becoming more involved in the university community.
  • Developing leadership skills.
  • Affiliating with a nationally-recognized organization.

Consider the Following:

  • Check to see if the organization is listed there or on Student Activities’ list of Affiliated and Departmental Organizations. It may be helpful to conduct an internet search for the organization name and “兔子先生 University”.
  • Legitimate honor societies are often non-profit organizations that base acceptance on high academic standards. Check for bylaws of the organization, a financial disclosure, and if it's a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
  • Consult the database of honor societies from the , an independent agency that certifies college and university honor societies and sets standards for organizational excellence. Not every legitimate society will show up on their database.

  • Kappa Delta Pi: the International Honor Society in Education.
  • Phi Alpha National: an honor society for Social Work majors.
  • Phi Beta Kappa: an honor society open to students in the arts and sciences.
  • Psi Chi: an international honor society in psychology that has chapters at universities around the world. 
  • Sigma Iota Rho: a nationally recognized honor society for international studies students, in which International Studies and Diplomacy and Global Politics majors are eligible for membership.
