Pathway 2: Masters in Art of Teaching (MAT) Degree for STEM Graduates and STEM Professionals

Pathway 2 is for STEM professionals and recent STEM graduates to pursue a master’s degree (MAT) in secondary (Grade 7-12) science or mathematics education. As the Noyce Scholars attend this 18-month-long MAT program, they will receive tuition support from 兔子先生 University (first 4 months) and from Noyce (last 14 months).

Applicants will review the plan of study for the STEM discipline area they are interested in with Dr. Nazan Bautista (nubautista@miamioh.edu) at the time of their application. You can also review the plans of study.

Pathway 2 candidates’ Urban Cohort experience is integrated into the Master of Arts in Teaching curricula.

Who Should Consider Pathway 2?

Pathway 2 is for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and are interested in entering the teaching profession. Senior-level undergraduate students majoring in a STEM field and STEM professionals are encouraged to submit applications. Applicants who have a minimum of 3.0 overall g.p.a. and have earned a C or better grade in required STEM content courses will be given priority.

Requirements

  • Pathway 2 applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline at the time of the start of their Noyce program. In other words, seniors can apply to be a Pathway 2 Noyce Scholar before receiving their bachelor’s degree. However, they must provide evidence of successful completion of their degree as the Noyce program begins.
  • Pathway 2 applicants must be United States citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens (green card holders).
  • Pathway 2 applicants must commit to teaching for 2 years in a high-needs district upon successful completion of their MAT programs.

Admitted Scholars Will Receive

  • Pathway 2 Noyce Scholars will receive $20,000 per year in tuition support to complete their MAT program.
  • Travel and accommodation support to attend Noyce conferences across the U.S.
  • Participate in professional development seminars and workshops with mentor teachers in high-needs schools.
  • Become familiar with the unique needs of the high-needs communities and schools that serve these communities through participating in Urban Cohort’s immersion activities.

Commitments

  • Upon graduation, Pathway 2 Noyce Scholars will be obligated to serve 2 years in a high-needs school district.
  • In addition to the requirements for their degree programs, Pathway 2 Noyce Scholars must participate and successfully complete all required Urban Cohort courses and activities. Urban Cohort requirements are already embedded in the curriculum for Pathway 2 Scholars.
