The Master’s Program in Counselor Education- Master of Education specializing in School Counseling is designed for individuals interested in becoming licensed as a Professional School Counselor in Ohio. The 60-credit-hour online program in School Counseling meets the training requirements established by the Ohio State Board of Education (SBOE). It aligns with the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) National Model and the CACREP accreditation standards. The program requires students to take 48 credit hours of core classes, six credit hours of electives, and six credit hours of specialty courses related to school counseling. Students will complete 100 hours of practicum experience and 600 hours of internship in a school counseling placement. Upon completing the program, the students will meet the training requirements for licensure as a School Counselor in Ohio. To be licensed as a school counselor, the student must be approved by the Ohio State Board of Education, having completed the school counseling master’s program, passed the Ohio Assessment for Educators, and completed a BCI/FBI background check.
